Ingredients

  • 2 C. unbleached white all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 C. butter, at room temperature
  • 1/2 C. sugar
  • 1/2 C. packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 2 C. rolled oats
  • 2 C. semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 1/2 C. raisins, dried cranberries, or chopped dried cherries (optional)
  • 1 C. coarsely chopped toasted walnuts (optional)

Directions

  1. Sift together the flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt.
  2. Cream together the butter and sugars.
  3. Add the eggs and vanilla and beat until well blended.
  4. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix.
  5. Stir the oats in with a spatula.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  7. Scoop by the spoonful onto baking sheets and bake for 12-15 minutes. We made about 20 small ones for Matt’s grandfather.
  8. Then, we added chopped walnuts and made about 10 monster cookies for ourselves.
